Marko’s sculptures are influenced by an innate respect of nature and observed facets of human emotions, moving comfortably between representation and abstraction. From the smooth and colourful seed forms carved in Tuscan Alabasters to his landscape and hugging figures carved in limestones, his sense of abstraction continues to evolve.
Marko’s works emit a spiritual calmness which reflects both his deep understanding and passion for the art of stone carving. Ancient limestones and alabasters are given new life often sparking feelings of wonderment by the onlooker. Favouring the medium of stone, he also casts limited editions in bronze, aluminium and composite metal and stone resins. His sculptural inspiration is continually fuelled by an internal drive to experiment with both shape and form.

He learnt his initial stone carving techniques on the Mediterranean island of Gozo, Malta. Captivated by the islands’ rich Neolithic history he was spurred on to study sculpting techniques at the University of Hertfordshire. His main sculpting heroes are Brancusi, Arp and Gaudier-Brzeska.

Marko exhibits with galleries and in group shows both in the UK and Internationally. His sculptures have been exhibited with the Royal Society of British Artists and the National Society in London on many occasions.  He has also exhibited in Germany, Gibraltar, Guernsey and New York.
In 2008 his sculptures were shortlisted for the Royal Academy exhibition and the following year he was elected a Member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. In 2014, his bronze Eype Figure was preselected for the Threadneedle Art Prize. His Hugging Couple sculptures have won accolades in the USA from Saatchi Art in Los Angeles. In 2016 Marko was awarded the Brian Mercer marble carving residency in Pietrasanta, Italy through the Royal British Society of Sculptors.

Working from his studios in Hertfordshire, Marko’s sculptures can be found in public and private collections and gardens in the UK, Europe, Australia, China and the USA.
